New City Of Omaha Solid Waste Contractor Is On The Job

It's time to use the new, larger, covered garbage and recycling bins in the City of Omaha.

The city's new solid waste contractor, "FCC Environmental" takes over Monday.

The collection days stay the same.

What you need to know about yard waste collection:

  • Yard waste and trash will be collected together in the carts with the black lid. Yard waste includes grass clippings, twigs, Christmas trees that fit in the bin, and garden plants.
  • Additional yard waste that doesn’t fit in in the bin will be collected in brown yard waste bags that have a prepaid sticker.
    • FCC will collect branches as big as 4 feet long, 2 inches in diameter, and in a bundle up to 50 pounds. The bundle must contain a prepaid sticker.
  • Beginning next year in the spring and fall, prepaid stickers won’t be required for yard waste collection for 4 to 6 weeks.
    • Prepaid stickers are available at 33 Omaha locations including HyVee, Family Fare, Westlake Hardware, Menards, IDeal Hardware, and Supermecardo locations.
  • During the spring and fall, all yard waste will go to OmahGrow and the rest of the year it will go to the landfill.

What you need to know about recycling:

  • Your trash and recycling collection days won’t change.
  • The 75th and Corby recycling location will close and move to 109th and Emmet. The 27th and Douglas location will also close and move to 17th and Burt.
  • Both sites are full-service sites that include glass recycling.
  • Your old trash cans and recycling bins will be recycled if possible. You can either bring them to the FCC headquarters at 5902 N. 16th Street or if they fit, place them inside your new trash bins to be collected. Do not place them in the new recycling bins.
