An Inmate Serving Time For A Douglas County Murder Dies

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says for the privacy of the family as well as to maintain the confidentiality of the man’s medical records in accordance with state law, they are not releasing the inmate's name.

They say he was in his '70's and was sentenced for first degree murder, assault and weapons charges out of Douglas County.

Corrections says the inmate tested negative for COVID-19 when he was admitted to the hospital in October.

He was undergoing treatment for numerous medical issues and recently tested positive for the virus.

The exact cause of death has not been determined.

As is the case whenever someone dies in custody, under state law, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
