14 year old boy in custody after pursuit that hit 125 MPH

A 14 year old boy is behinds bars after leading troopers in a pursuit Wednesday night that hit 125 miles per hour.

The Nebraska State Patrol says just after 9:00 Wednesday night a trooper spotted a Nissan Altima speeding at 100 miles per hour on westbound Interstate 80, near the I-680 interchange. Investigators say the trooper tried to pull the car over, but the vehicle accelerated and fled northbound onto I-680, with the trooper in hot pursuit.

The NSP says while on I-680, the Nissan reached speeds of 125 miles per hour and drove recklessly, weaving through traffic. The State Patrol says the vehicle then exited I-680 at Fort Street and turned westbound onto Fort Street. They say before the vehicle could accelerate again, the trooper performed a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the car to a stop. Investigators say the 14 year old driver was immediately taken into custody without further incident.

The teen was taken to the Douglas County Youth Center on charges of felony flight to avoid arrest, felony willful reckless driving, no operator’s license, and traffic violations.

The NSP says the entire pursuit lasted approximately three minutes.
