The Plan In Hiring An Omaha City Attorney Moves Forward

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert says City Prosecutor Matt Kuhse will be interim City Attorney when Paul Kratz retires next month after 23 years leading the city legal department.

Kratz hired Kuhse as city prosecutor in 2016.

Before joining the city, Kuhse was a Deputy Douglas County Attorney for 15 years. He is a Marquette University graduate, who received his law degree from Creighton University.

Under the Omaha Home Rule Charter, the City Attorney is a Civil Service position in which the mayor hires.

The job will be posted and candidates will take part in a competitive bidding process.

Mayor Stothert expects to name a permanent City Attorney in early 2021.
