Colder temperatures and moist air combined to make for very slick conditions Wednesday morning on the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area freeway system and West Dodge Expressway.
Law enforcement and fire and rescue were very busy with numerous wrecks beginning around 4 a.m.
Lucy Chapman in the KFAB "Timesaver Traffic" Center reported on numerous crashes, closures and lane restrictions during the morning commute.
Omaha National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen tells KFAB Radio News the cold air chills bridges by simply getting under them, freezing moisture on the surface.
He says the surface streets fared better because the ground was warmer, but that left a false sense of security.
