Child abducted in Colorado found safe in North Platte

A child is reunited with their family after being abducted in Colorado and taken into Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol says around 6:15 Tuesday night, they were alerted of an assault and kidnapping out of Sedgwick County, Colorado. NSP says that the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office told the State Patrol that the suspect, 31 year old George Williamson of North Platte, had assaulted a woman, then drove off in the woman's vehicle with her child still inside. Williamson was believed to be headed eastbound on Interstate 80 into Nebraska.

NSP says around 7:00, troopers were able to locate the vehicle, a Mazda 3, on I-80 near North Platte. The State Patrol says troopers and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled the vehicle over and took Williamson into custody. The child was found safe inside the vehicle and was was reunited with family.

Williamson was arrested on warrants for kidnapping and assault from Sedgwick County, Colorado, as well as a warrant for failure to appear from Dawson County, Nebraska. He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail.
