OPS to start new COVID-19 testing protocol for students, staff at 3 schools

The Omaha Public School District will launch a new pilot program which will test for COVID-19 with a saliva swab.

Students at Marrs Middle School, Norris Middle School and Bryan High School will be included if parents or guardians opt them in. The testing will be required for all staff at those three schools.

OPS says the program will wrap up at the end of the year, but could continue afterward.

The district says environmental monitoring will also be part of the program at the three selected schools which includes testing air, wastewater and high-touch surfaces.

OPS says the point of the program is to use the data to help drive decision making through the pandemic.
