Omaha Police warning parents about Child Safety Kit scams

The Omaha Police Department is warning parents about a scam they have been made aware of involving Child Safety Kits.

Police say scammers are advertising Child Safety Kits, but are asking for personal information that should never be given out such as social security numbers. OPD says in some cases, scammers are asking to meet with the child in the home. They say this is probably being done to pressure the parent into revealing sensitive information that could lead to identity theft.

Omaha Police say there are legitimate child safety kids on the market, but they're designed to help parents gather information such as fingerprints, DNA, and pictures of the child. They say this information is collected and handed over to police if a child were to go missing. Police say these kits are for parents to keep, and should never be sent out to a company claiming to store them.
