Nebraska State Patrol trooper injured in I-80 crash

A Nebraska State Patrol trooper and another driver were injured in a Wednesday morning crash on I-80 in Omaha.

The Nebraska State Patrol says around 8:45 Wednesday morning, troopers responded to reports of road damage on eastbound I-80 near Giles Road. The NSP says troopers blocked off the far right lane of traffic for construction workers to repair on the road.

Investigators say about an hour after the initial response, a trooper was inside their patrol unit when it was struck from the rear by a Lexus SUV. The State Patrol says the trooper’s patrol unit was stationary, blocking the far right lane of I-80, with its emergency lights on.

The trooper and driver of the Lexus SUV were both transported to Bergan Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper has since been released from the hospital.

The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
