University of Nebraska at Omaha is announcing another virtual commencement for the Fall class of 2020.
The University says students who are set to graduate at the end of the Fall semester, or who already graduated in August, will be able to take part in an online commencement ceremony on Friday, December 18th.
“Moving to a primarily virtual format for December commencement gives the university community an opportunity to celebrate the many academic achievements of our Maverick graduates, while also upholding our commitment to promote health, safety and well-being of our students and their loved ones,” UNO Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., said. “We look forward to producing for our Maverick graduates a moment that is exciting, highly engaging, and memorable as they cross this important milestone in their academic journeys.”
The University says they had planned to hold in-person commencement ceremonies for August and December graduates at the end of this semester, they say the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the anticipated resurgence of the virus during the winter months poses a public health risk.
UNO says each of the colleges, as well as the Graduate School, will have a video-streamed commencement ceremony on December 18th.
