An Omaha teacher is his announcing his bid for Mayor of Omaha.
On Tuesday, Omaha North High School teacher Mark Gudgel announced that he is running to be elected Mayor of Omaha. The Gudgel for Mayor campaign debuted its website and says they will host a number of online and socially-distanced outdoor events to launch the campaign this week. According to a press release from Gudgel's campaign, his platform is one that empowers, "current students to obtain their education, start businesses and careers and begin families in Omaha."
“We must do everything in our power to make Omaha the city our children want to call home,” Gudgel said. The release goes on to say that, "Gudgel emphasizes strengthening relationships with existing Fortune 1000 companies and developing programs to support new business creation in the wake of COVID-19."
Gudgel's campaign says he is a 17 year veteran of public schools, teaching English and coaching cross country and women’s basketball at Omaha North High Magnet School for the past six years. According to the release, Gudgel founded and served as executive director of the Educators’ Institute for Human Rights, which they say supports teachers in Rwanda as, "the nation continued recovering from genocide."
According to the release, Gudgel earned his doctorate in Character Education and has taught as an adjunct professor in Nebraska Wesleyan’s M.Ed. program.
The Omaha mayoral primary election will be held on April 6, 2021.
