Four more drop boxes added, first early voting ballots mailed in Douglas Co

The Douglas County Election Commission says they mailed approximately 111,000 early voting ballots on Monday, the required date to begin mailing ballots in accordance with Nebraska statutes.

The Commission says to date, approximately 155,000 applications have been received from Douglas County voters.

Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse says the ballots were generated from applications received at their office through August 24th. “Requests continue to be processed, and ballots will be mailed every weekday through October 23, 2020. All valid applications will be fulfilled on or before the deadline, and we ask voters for their patience as our staff manage this record-setting response to by-mail early voting.”

Also on Monday, the Election Commission announced the installation of four additional official ballot drop boxes at the following Douglas County locations:

  • Clarkson College Parking Lot 8: 42nd and Farnam St (northwest corner, east side of parking lot)
  • Goodwill: 4805 N 72nd St (southwest end of parking lot, near IHOP)
  • Asian Market: 321 N 76th St (west end of parking lot)
  • Spring Ridge Shopping Center: 178th and Pacific St (on median when entering at 178th St, next to post office box)

A list of all 13 official ballot drop box locations will be included with by-mail ballots and is available on the Douglas County Election Commission website here.

Voters are reminded that depositing election-related materials, including by-mail ballot applications, voter registration applications, and early voting ballots, into official ballot drop boxes is the most direct method to return documents to the Election Commission. No postage is needed, drop boxes are available 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and materials are frequently collected and delivered directly to the Election Commission.

Election materials should only be deposited into official ballot drop boxes; the Election Commission cannot guarantee receipt of election materials that are deposited into drop boxes for other county or city offices.
