Lincoln Police see uptick in counterfeit money reports

The Lincoln Police Department is seeing an uptick in counterfeit money reports.

LPD says between September 1st and September 16th, they've investigated twenty one incidents in which individuals attempted to pass counterfeit bills. Investigators say the victims were different businesses across the city, such as convenience stores, gas stations and restaurants. They say the counterfeit currency ranges from $5 bills to $100 bills. 

Lincoln Police say by this time last year, they had investigated 138 counterfeit cases. This year to date, LPD has investigated 160 counterfeit cases, a 16% increase. LPD is working with businesses to identify suspects through video surveillance and other forensic techniques.
