High Court Rulings On Two High Profile Ballot Initiatives Are Imminent

The Nebraska Supreme Court Thursday will release opinions on whether or not medical marijuana and expanded gambling petition initiatives will be on the November ballot.

Petitions for both initiatives received enough signatures from Nebraska voters to make the ballot.

The Secretary of State certified the medical marijuana measure.

But, opponents appealed to the court, arguing the medical marijuana issue is too complicated and does not meet a standard of "specificity," which should keep it off the ballot.

Those for medical marijuana in the state argue Nebraskans with certain medical conditions should have access to medical marijuana if it’s prescribed by a doctor.

The language of the expanded gambling initiative also brought it before the high court with Secretary of State Bob Evnen calling the language “confusing” and “not a single issue.”

Time is of the essence as the ballots go to the printer on Friday.
