Corrections staff and police locate and arrest missing inmate

Omaha corrections staff members and police made quick work of locating and arresting a missing inmate.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services say Wednesday night Travis Running Bear failed to return to the Community Corrections Center-Omaha after working at his job in the community. They say after stopping at several locations, including a couple of stores, Running Bear removed the electronic monitoring device he was wearing at 36th and Hascall Street.

NDCS says when CCC-O staff members arrived in the area of 36th and Hascall, they saw Running Bear get into a vehicle with two other women. Prison officials say the staff members followed the vehicle and relayed the information back to the facility.

Running Bear was arrested after being dropped off at a hotel near South 60thand L Street and returned to the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. He was eventually transported to the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Lincoln.

CCC-O is one of two community custody facilities operated by NDCS. Community custody is the lowest custody level and the least restrictive facility. Inmates are allowed to participate in work opportunities, attend school and religious services with prior approval and without direct supervision.
