Grand Jury Work To Begin Next Week In James Scurlock Shooting Death

Potential grand jurors will meet, and those chosen will eventually examine the evidence in the shooting death of the 22-year old Scurlock.

Scurlock was shot and killed May 30th by a bar owner during protests and vandalism in the downtown Omaha area over the police in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

A grand jury pool of 40 citizens will gather next Tuesday at the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center to fill out a questionnaire and be asked questions until 16 jurors and three alternates are chosen.

Special Prosecutor Frederick Franklin will eventually present evidence to the grand jurors, who will decide whether to hand up charges against Jake Gardner.

In June, Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine declined to file charges saying the evidence, most notably a video, pointed at self-defense.

Gardner was the owner "The Hive" at 12th & Harney, and the shooting happened outside the business.
