Wounded Lincoln Police Officer Undergoes Surgery

The officer remains in critical condition after he was shot while serving a warrant near 33rd and Vine streets on Wednesday.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister says the officer is a 23-year-veteran of the force.

Bliemeister said officers were serving an arrest warrant for second degree assault for 17-year-old Felipe Vazquez in connection with the March homicide of Edward Varejcka.

Investigators say the officer was shot after two men broke through the front window of the home and fired.

Officers did return fire, but no one else was hit.

Vazquez and 19-year old Orion Ross were then arrested.

Police say it's not clear who shot the officer. A weapon has been recovered;

The shooting caused a lockdown at nearby Hartley Elementary School.
