Former Congressman Steps Up To Challenge Senator Ben Sasse

Former Democratic Nebraska Second District Representative Brad Ashford plans to launch a write-in bid for the U.S. Senate if the party calls on him.

Ashford says he will move forward with the campaign if current Democratic Senate nominee Chris Janicek does not withdraw from the race.

There have been calls for Janicek to withdraw over inappropriate tweets about a female campaign staff member for which he has apologized.

The state Democratic Party wants Janicek to leave the race by September 1st, which would allow Alisha Shelton's name to be placed on the ballot.

Ashford wants that to happen, but says he is on stand by if needed.

The Democratic nominee challenges Republican incumbent Ben Sasse in the November election.
