The Omaha Police Traffic Unit is taking part in a nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety has awarded $20,000 to fund extra cruiser officers on the streets to detect and arrest alcohol and drug impaired drivers.
The operation runs through Labor Day, September 7th, at various dates and times throughout the entire city.
Omaha Police remind motorists to always have a designated driver.
They say in 2019, the City of Omaha had 213 motor vehicle fatalities or serious injury crashes.
Of those 213, 62 involved an impaired driver with average blood alcohol content (BAC) of .194 %.
The legal limit in Nebraska is .08 % BAC.
