Omaha Group Moves Forward With Calls For Police Funding Changes

The Omaha City Council passes a budget amendment to take money from the cash reserve to help fund mental health and social programs.

But, a group seeking change in law enforcement will continue to push for cutting money from the police budget and investing those dollars in community programs.

"I’m definitely joyful that the community is getting funded more. I think that is a step in the right direction, but that doesn’t take away from why we are out here, and that we believe that the police are being overfunded,” "ProBLAC" organizer Bear Alexander tells 6 News.

"ProBLAC" member Rachel Besse says, “We need more; so we’re out here being advocates and saying we are here; This is a great start, this is amazing, but we need more, and we need more backing and activism and support.”

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert says she plans to veto the amendment to use the money from the contingency fund in that way.
