A free, community COVID-19 test site in South Omaha is closing, and the Douglas County Board of Health wants to know why.

In a Wednesday morning meeting, County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour met with the board to explain why the test site at 50th and G would be closing this month.

Pour says the site is closing due to staffing issues. The site has been funded and staffed by the county, Nebraska Medicine and OneWorld Community Health Centers. Dr. Pour says it’s time for those working at the site, to return to their regular work.

The board suggested finding staff from other places to work at the site. Dr. Pour says they have reached out to several other organizations that could help with staffing, but none are willing.

According to Dr. Adi Pour, there has been a 10% increase in the positivity rate and cases are continuing to rise, noting that hospital bed capacity in the metro is currently hovering around 80%.
