Some July Omaha Protesters To Challenge The Charges Against Them

Dozens of protesters, who were arrested in Omaha last month, make court appearances before Douglas County Court Judge Stephanie Hansen.

Police arrested 119 people during Midtown Omaha protests and demonstrations over policing and racism on charges ranging from obstructing traffic to unlawful assembly.

6 News reports the City Prosecutor declined to charge 89 of the protesters citing a lack of evidence, leaving 30 facing charges.

And they asked for a continuance to fight the charges;

Some defense attorneys say they plan to challenge whether the protesters were obstructing traffic and could be charged with that, saying they were allowed on the street by police and then were told they couldn’t be there.
