CARES Act utility assistance funds available for Douglas County residents

Douglas County residents who have struggled to pay their utility bills amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic are can now get some assistance thanks to federal CARES Act dollars.

Metropolitan Utilities District and Omaha Public Power District customers can now apply for utility assistance from the federally funded program. In July, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted to allocate $4 million in funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act for utility assistance.

Funding is administered through Dollar Energy Fund and local agencies. Customers may apply for assistance through a secure online portal here.
