14 year old taken into custody after being pulled over in stolen vehicle

A fourteen year old girl is in trouble with the law after the Nebraska State Patrol says a trooper found her behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle.

The Nebraska State Patrol says around 4:20 Tuesday afternoon, a trooper saw a driver throw a cigarette out the window of a Jeep Patriot while it was stopped at the intersection of 27th and O streets. NSP says the trooper then discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen and began to follow the Jeep.

NSP says the trooper pulled the vehicle over and during the traffic stop, the driver, a fourteen year old girl was taken into custody on several charges. The girl was lodged at the Lancaster County Youth Services Center for charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator’s license and theft by receiving stolen property. Investigators say the girl had also been reported missing.

The State Patrol says there were two passengers in the vehicle when it was pulled over. One passenger, 43 year old Jay Schultz of Lincoln, was arrested on outstanding warrants. The other passenger, an 18 year old male, was released.
