As the school year is scheduled to begin next week under the threat of Covid-19 coronavirus, there was plenty of emotion at a public hearing of the Omaha Public School district board Tuesday night.
Many teachers and parents asked for a completely remote learning model to begin the school year.
Some criticized state leaders for not implementing more stringent health mandates, especially masks.
“We are not fully valuing the lives of our children if policymakers continue to roadblock responsible pandemic response,” said board member Amanda Ryan.
School board member Ben Perlman said, “I want to take every opportunity I can to directly at this point plea to the governor to stop threatening lawsuits, withholding money, and using every ounce of power that he has to do what doctors are telling us not to.”
6 News reports, though in the minority, there also was support for the "in school" type of reopening.
School in the Omaha district is set to begin next Tuesday.
