Douglas County Board Allocates Money To Help Courts During Pandemic

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners hears from a judge and then votes to spend $650,000 in CARES Act money to help the judicial system safely navigate the challenges of Covid - 19.

District Court Judge Horatio Wheelock told the board the money is to help expedite cases in the judicial system that have been bogged down due to the pandemic.

The money will go toward more video conferencing and renovating a nearby building across Harney St. from the Civic Center to hold jury selection and grand juries.

It will also pay for improving sound systems in five courtrooms, security, and upgrading bailiff communications systems.
