Tense Moments For Omaha Police In NW Radial Traffic Stop

Omaha Police shut down Northwest Radial Highway near 49th St. Thursday evening after a passenger ran from a traffic stop followed by a report of gunshots, and a call for more police officers.

Police tell 6 News that an officer stopped a car on the Radial around 6:30 p.m., and a passenger got out and ran away leading to a foot chase.

About 6:50 p.m., a "help an officer" call was broadcast on police radios indicating shots had been fired.

No serious injuries to police were reported.

Witnesses say the passenger had a handgun.

Police did recover a gun in the area and were no longer looking for any suspects
