The Omaha Public School District uses the recently remodeled Norris Middle School near 45th and Center in Omaha as the backdrop to unveil some of the social distancing plans and tactics as the school year rapidly approaches.
“Everyone is solving a different problem,” says Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Logan. “We want our children back in school because that’s the best place for them to learn. We also know we have some challenges for that.”
With the O - P - S school bells set to ring on August 11th, there was a demonstration how they’ve increased daily cleaning protocols.
In the lunchroom, 6 News reports changes include individually wrapped sandwiches, handing ketchup packets to students, and having students eat at staggered times so they don’t sit across or next to anyone.
Staggered attendance on the “Family 3/2″ schedule means one group of O - P - S students goes to school Monday and Tuesday, others on Thursday and Friday, with a split every other Wednesday.
When students aren’t in class, the learning happens remotely.
