The Papillion-La Vista Community Schools Board plans to offer a remote learning program option for all families while offering in-person teaching as well when the school year starts.
The board on Monday said reopening will include providing a quality education, keeping people healthy and keeping students inside the building this year as long as possible while implementing health precautions.
The board said they are also prepared to do a 50 percent plan where students would alternate the days of the week they would attend class in-person.
Masks and social distancing will be required when possible while hand washing and enhanced cleaning in district facilities will be increased. Non-essential visitors at schools will be limited.
At the elementary level, there will be a staggered start and dismissal times to keep crowd sizes down. Students will enter through the designated doors and go straight to their classrooms. No lockers will be used so backpacks are allowed in classes and lunch will be delivered to classrooms. Students will also have recess and mask breaks built into the day.
At middle school and high schools it will be the same as elementary, but lunch will be served in designated areas outside the classroom. Classes that require a lab will still take place, but a smaller group of students will participate to keep social distancing possible. School assemblies and field trips will also be virtual.
Parents opting for remote learning have from July 28-31 to register their child. If a child is remote they will not be able to participate in any extracurricular activities.
