Lincoln man accused of driving drunk damages 3 houses, a car and a mailbox

Lincoln Police are adding up the damages caused by a man they say was driving drunk when he damaged homes, cars and mailboxes.

Police say around 5:00 Tuesday night, officers were called to a hit and run accident in the area of 48th and Holdrege. Officers say they found that several mailboxes and a trailer home had been hit by a green Dodge truck. Investigators say about two hours later, an officer saw a green Dodge truck erratically driving down the sidewalk in the area of 40th and Cornhusker with two flat tires. Other officers arrived to the area to assist, but the truck left the area.

LPD says shortly after, officers received a call that the truck was in the area of 12th and Belmont and was erratically driving through yards and hitting mailboxes. Officers located the truck at 11th and Garber after it collided with a white Allo truck and became disabled.

Police say when officers contacted the driver, a 27 year old man, it was apparent that he was intoxicated. Investigators say officers saw open beer cans inside the truck as well. The driver was taken to The Bridge for a formal breath test, which police say he refused.

The driver was cited for DUI, Refuse Chemical Test, Refuse Preliminary Test, Leave Scene of Accident, Revoked and Suspended License, Reckless Driving, and Possess Open Alcohol Container.

Police say at this time, they believed there were three houses, one vehicle, four mailboxes and a street sign that were damaged. The investigation is ongoing. Total damage amounts are not known at this time.
