Lincoln Mask Mandate Takes Effect Monday

The City of Lincoln's face mask requirement goes into effect on Monday.

Face coverings are required in buildings open to the public, with exceptions for dining, exercising, and for children five years or younger.

Masks are also not required if businesses can guarantee six feet of social distancing.

Health officials in Douglas County say they’re keeping an eye on Lincoln now that a face mask requirement has been added.

Chris Rogers, president of the Douglas County Board said Friday the board and the health department are watching “with intense interest” the actions of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.

“The DCHD does not have the authority to pass a new directed health measure without the governor’s approval,” Rogers said in a statement on Friday. “But the BOH is ready to pass a resolution asking all cities in Douglas County to pass a mask ordinance based on the increased number of COVID-19 cases over the last ten days”
