Lincoln Store Clerk, Customer In Wheelchair Attacked During Robbery

Lincoln Police say a man who wasn't allowed to buy any more alcohol attacked a store clerk and a customer in a wheelchair came to his defense.

Police say say it happened late Tuesday night at the U Stop at 110 W O Street. The 20-year-old employee reported that a man came into the store and wanted to purchase alcohol, but he was trying to buy more than the store allows to be sold to a customer per shift.

That's when police say the man got upset and started swinging his fists at the employee, hitting him in the head several times. With the employee on the ground and dazed, police say the man grabbed his phone, headphones and jacket.

Police say a 37-year-old customer saw what was happening and told officers he tried to intervene, but was punched in the side of the face and knocked out of his wheelchair.

Officers were able to track down 37 year old Eric Eggleston. Police say he was sleeping in a tent in the area of Sun Valley Blvd and West O Street and had blood all over his hand and a machete next to him.

Police say Eggleston struggled with officers as they tried to get him to come out of the tent. He was eventually taken into custody and arrested for Robbery, Obstructing a Peace Officer and 3rd Degree Assault.
