Medical marijuana proponents in Nebraska have submitted over 182,000 petition signatures to put the measure on the November ballot.
On Thursday, Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana, a 2020 ballot initiative committee, delivered the signatures to the state capitol in Lincoln. According to a media release from the group, signatures were collected from all 93 Nebraska counties. They say their ballot initiative will, "Establish legal protections for medical marijuana patients with serious health conditions. If approved by a majority of voters in November, the initiative would allow patients to access and use medical marijuana as recommended by their physician or nurse practitioner."
Just over 121,000 signatures are needed to place the measure on the ballot in the Fall.
The release goes on to state that, "In the coming weeks, state and local officials will tally the signatures collected by the campaign to confirm that enough valid signatures were submitted to qualify the initiative for the November 3rd general election ballot. A decision is expected by mid- August."
