Omaha City Council To Reconsider Rentable Scooters

The city of Omaha is considering launching a new rentable scooter pilot program. Omaha City Councilman Ben Gray brought the contracts for the Bird and Spin scooter companies up for consideration during Tuesday's meeting.

The contracts for the companies failed to pass in a vote last week after council members shared concerns over enforcement of the rules and cleaning. Gray says the companies addressed most of his concerns.

“I didn't want to hold them up any longer," Gray tells 6 News. "Especially if they've hired staff and made a commitment to making sure the scooters stayed professionally maintained. That they're cleaned on a regular basis. That they're not laying all over the place like they were in some districts in the community,” Gray says.

He wanted to make sure a scooter station would be available in his north Omaha district. The city council will vote on the contracts again July 14. If passed, the second pilot program could return soon after.
