Capitol District murder suspect released from hospital and booked into jail

A murder suspect is out of the hospital and in jail more than a week after reportedly killing a man and being shot by an off-duty officer.

On Monday, Omaha Police said 27 year old Marlon Miranda Jr. was released from the hospital and booked into Douglas County Corrections on charges of 1st Degree Murder, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony and Domestic Violence Assault.

Police say Miranda is accused of shooting and killing 26 year old Jose Santos Parra Juarez the morning of Saturday, June 13th.

OPD says just before 2:00, officers were called to the Capitol District near 10th and Capitol for a report of shots fired. Investigators say the caller, an off-duty Bellevue Police officer working security in the area, told them that the shooting occurred near 12th and Davenport. Once officers got on scene, they saw Juarez down on the sidewalk with Miranda in custody.

Police say Miranda shot Juarez and then the off-duty Bellevue police officer shot Miranda.
