Omaha Man Critically Injured In High Speed Head-On Crash

An Omaha man suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash Wednesday evening near 32nd and Bedford.

Investigators say a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 53 year old Marcell Waller was eastbound on Bedford Avenue at a high rate of speed and struck a westbound 2005 Nissan Altima head-on.

Police say after the collision, the Mercury left the roadway, struck a fence and then a tree. Both drivers were transported to Nebraska Medicine.

The driver of the Nissan, 42 year old Rene Brizuela-Recinos, suffered injuries to his chest and legs that are considered life threatening.

Police did not specify Waller's injuries. In addition to speeding, Police believe he had been drinking. Charges are pending.
