Despite Calls To Step Down Janicek Plans To Stay In Race For U-S Senate

Nebraska Democratic U-S Senate candidate Chris Janicek is resisting demands to end his campaign.

The Nebraska Democratic Party has called for Janicek to drop out of the senate race for what the party calls sexually inappropriate comments made about a female staff member in a group text.

A code of conduct complaint was filed, and the female staffer mentioned in the texts has since quit the campaign. Janicek, an Omaha baker, tells 6 News he apologizes for the texts, which mentioned sexually explicit sex acts, but is not dropping out of the race.

"It was a terrible thing to do, it was inappropriate. We have apologized, we have spoken with her in person and it's time to move on."

Jane Kleeb, the state chair of the party said, "Our democratic party has no tolerance for sexual harassment."

She went on to say that they won't support a candidate who doesn't treat women with the dignity and the respect they deserve. The Nebraska Democratic Party could replace his name on the ballot for November but he would have to formally resign.

Janicek won the May primary with 31 percent of the vote among democrats and is challenging Republican Senator Ben Sasse.
