Sixth Nebraska National Guard Soldier Tests Positive For COVID-19

A sixth Nebraska National Guard soldier has tested positive for COVID-19.

A spokesman says all six soldiers who tested positive for the virus were part of last week's effort to help law enforcement during protests in Omaha and Lincoln.

Major General Daryl Bohac tells 6 News the 600 soldiers knew the possibility of getting sick because large gatherings had been limited for months because of the coronavirus.

"I had three directives...preserve the health of the force, protect our families in our communities and stay ready. If we take care of everyone we take care of the other two and that's the direction we're following."

The six infected soldiers are in isolation at home, and dozens of other guard members who had contact with them are in self-quarantine for 14 days.
