Bigger fines for E-scooter violations in Omaha this summer

OMAHA, Nebraska -- The Omaha City Council has set new, higher fines for e-scooter violations this summer.

This is the second year the City of Omaha is giving electric scooters a trial, but is upping the penalties for rule breakers.

For example, parking a car that encroaches on a crosswalk usually gets a $16 dollar fine in Omaha, but park your e-scooter in a crosswalk and the fine is $100. Other violations also carry that $100 price tag.

There are concerns about the safety of electric bike riders on Omaha streets because of busy traffic, rocks, and potholes.

The new, tougher penalties still need to be signed by the Mayor before they go into effect.
