Douglas County COVID-19 cases close in on 5,000

The number of COVID-19 coronavirus cases and deaths continue to climb in Douglas County.

On Thursday, the Health Department confirmed that total cases of COVID-19 in the county have increased to 4,865 from the previous day’s total of 4,678. An increase of 189 new cases. The health department is also reporting three additional coronavirus deaths. DCHD says two men and a woman have died from the virus, with one of the individuals more than 65 years other and the other two between 50 and 64 years of age. That brings to 45 the total deaths in the county linked to the outbreak.

As of Thursday morning, local hospitals in the metro area reported that 413 medical and surgical beds were available for a 70% capacity rate with 135 patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19. Of the 380 ventilators available to area hospitals, 148 were in use, including 42 for confirmed coronavirus patients.

DCHD says 1,101 county residents have recovered from the illness.
