A kayaker who became stranded on the Platte River had to be rescued Tuesday afternoon according to the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department's Search and Rescue Unit.
The sheriff's office says 73-year-old Vern Pensas was one of four kayakers getting out of the water. As Pensas was getting out of his kayak, investigators say it began to float away in the strong current.
He held onto the rear of his kayak floating down the river about a half mile east of the Highway 50/Highway 31 boat ramp.
The sheriff's office say he was able to grab onto a tree limb, but needed assistance. A rescue boat got to him and and brought him to safety. He did suffer any injuries.
