Man Killed After Downtown Omaha Protests Turn Violent

An Omaha man is dead following a violent night of protests and riots in Downtown Omaha Saturday.

Omaha Police say around 11:00, officers reported hearing shots fired near 12th and Harney Street. Upon officers' arrival to the scene, they found 22 year old James Scurlock suffering from a gunshot wound. Scurlock was transported to the Nebraska Medicine where he died.

Police say one person is in police custody in connection to the shooting. Investigators are in the process of reviewing all collected evidence, video, witness interviews and is conferring with the Douglas County Attorney's office on any charges. The investigation is ongoing.
