Protesters Shut Down 72nd and Dodge For Second Straight Night

For a second straight night hundreds of people protesting the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis shut down the intersection of 72nd and Dodge.

Protesters carrying signs, waiving American flags and holding banners began to gather around 4:00 along the street and in the Target parking lot.

Windows of the store that had been broken out during Friday's protest were boarded up Saturday evening as protesters began to gather.

Outside the store, Omaha Police and the Nebraska State Patrol assembled, some in protective gear.

By 4:45 p.m. a much larger crowd had started to gather, and cars driving through and past the intersection were honking at protesters, who cheered in response.

According to 6 News some protesters were seen being handcuffed and loaded into police vehicles afterward. On Friday night 21 people were arrested for various offenses.

KFAB News spotted several officers with guns and binoculars on the roof of DoSpace on the south side of the intersection.

Only one minor injury was reported during Friday night's protest. As of 8:00 Saturday night no injuries were reported.
