Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicle offices across the state will begin holding driving tests again following COVID-19 pandemic closures.
During his daily COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, Governor Pete Ricketts also announced that drivers over 72 years old will have their driver's licenses expiration date extended another year if it expires this year, Ricketts said ha signed an executive order to do so. "We anticipate there will be pent up demand for people needing drivers licenses, so we're going to go ahead and waive those for our seniors so they don't have to wait in line."
Rhonda Lahm, Director of the Nebraska DMV, said when driving tests were suspended in March, it was disappointing for some, especially teenagers seeking to get their license for the first time. "Services will be available tomorrow (May 27th) at all counties where courthouses are open to walk-in public traffic," Lahm said.
Lahm says any Omaha-metro drivers will need to sign up for a test time at the DMV's website. All drivers will also be required to wear a face mask during the driving test.
