Sarpy/Cass Health Department reports Sarpy County's first COVID-19 death

The Sarpy/Cass Health Department is reporting Sarpy County' first COVID-19 coronavirus death.

The department says a man in his 80's, who also suffered from serious underlying health conditions, is the first COVID-19 death in Sarpy County. Health officials say the man contracted COVID-19 through community spread and had been hospitalized since April 23rd.

Health Director Sarah Schram says they send their sympathies to the family of the man. “Our entire team grieves with this family and all of those who have lost loved ones during this pandemic.”

As COVID-19 continues to spread, Schram urges residents to do all they can to keep each other safe and healthy. “Now more than ever, each of us must do our part to prevent the spread of this virus, especially to our most vulnerable neighbors.”

To date, there have been 123 cases of COVID-19 in Sarpy County and 5 in Cass County. Of those cases, 19 are travel-related, 39 are community acquired, 62 are close contact and 8 are under investigation.
