COVID-19 Case Numbers Continue to Climb in Douglas County

Double digit COVID-19 coronavirus case numbers were reported in Douglas County again on Thursday.

The Health Department confirmed 23 new cases of COVID-19 in Douglas County, bringing the total number of positive cases in the county up to 348 since the start of the outbreak. Of the new cases, there are 12 men, ten women and one person who still has to be contacted. The most recent cases range in age from 17 to 69 years old. Seven of these individuals had contact with a known case, five cases were community-acquired and eleven cases remain under investigation. Two of the most recent cases have been hospitalized.

As of Wednesday night, local hospitals reported that there were 571 medical surge beds available and that there are currently 40 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Of the 354 ventilators available to metro hospitals, 89 are in use, including 16 being used by coronavirus patients.
