Pursuit Suspect Taken in to Custody After Standoff and Attempted Escape

The suspect in a multi-county pursuit is now in custody after having a standoff with law enforcement and trying to escape through sewer lines.

The pursuit started Friday morning when law enforcement began following a vehicle believed to be stolen from the area of 108th and Fort. The suspect lead law enforcement from Omaha into Sarpy County, where a call went out to Sarpy County SWAT around 9:30.

The vehicle became disabled near Shadow Lake at 72nd and Highway 370, prompting a traffic shutdown in the area. The suspect reportedly then barricaded himself inside the disabled vehicle and threatened that he had pipe bombs with him. For more than an hour, the man had a standoff with law enforcement from both Sarpy and Douglas counties.

Just after 11:00, the suspect reportedly opened the vehicle door and got on the roof. As officers moved in, thee man ran into a culvert, a type of drainage and sewer system.

Officers searched manholes in the area. The suspect was found and arrested just before 1:00.
