In the coming days you may be able to add several new items to your orders from restaurants and bars that offer to-go and delivery services.
"Meat, eggs, milk, bread, toilet paper, disinfectant, so not just food items but some of those paper supplies we're looking for," says Zoe Olson with the Nebraska Restaurant Association.
“You could certainly go through the drive thru and say, ‘With my order I need two rolls of toilet paper,’ and that could be added to your order.”
Governor Pete Ricketts on Tuesday announced regulatory changes to give restaurants the option to sell packaged foods to customers. Under normal circumstances, restaurants cannot sell packaged foods, like loaves of bread or cartons of eggs, that do not have nutrition labels.
Ricketts says the intent of the change is to give Nebraskans greater access to food, while also helping restaurants add another revenue stream during the pandemic.
The Nebraska Restaurant Association predicts that 6% of the state's restaurants will permanently close because of the pandemic. Olson says temporarily loosening the regulations could help some survive.
She says it will be up to individual restaurants to decide what they want to offer, and suggested checking by phone or social media to see what’s available.
