Omaha Police Department Employees to Start Wearing Masks

The Omaha Police Department says its employees will start wearing masks.

In a Monday afternoon media release, the OPD said that as they continue to navigate public safety during the coronavirus outbreak, they want to do everything possible to keep both employees and citizens safe. "In that effort, you may notice our officers and civilian employees wearing masks. At the recommendation of health experts, we are wearing masks to help slow the spread of the virus. We encourage members of the public to wear masks as well."

The department says they want the public to understand that if they see officers and civilian employees interacting with the public wearing masks, it's a proactive effort to help protect everyone. "Our masks protect the public, and the public wearing masks protect our officers. We are committed to providing the best public safety possible while also adapting to necessary health measures due to COVID-19. Thank you for your support and cooperation. We will get through this together."
