The number of COVID-19 coronavirus cases are on the rise in the Omaha metro and across the state of Nebraska.
On Friday the Douglas County Health Department confirmed 24 new cases of COVID-19 in the county. These new cases involve 12 men and 12 women between 23 and 104 years of age. Eleven of the individuals had contact to a known case, while five new cases involve community spread. Details are not immediately available on the other eight cases. One of the new cases is known to be hospitalized.
Douglas County now has seen 222 cases of COVID-19. DCHD has received 3,189 test results since testing began in March and as Friday afternoon, the positive rate for the past week was 7.9%, compared to 7% last week and 5.7% two weeks ago.
There have been six COVID-19-related deaths in Douglas County and 17 statewide. Two of the state's most recent deaths came out of Hall County, which has reported 118 cases of the disease, trailing Douglas County by about 100. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has reported 648 positive cases total in the state
